Abstract
Gout arthritis is one of the common diseases in the elderly, characterized by increased levels of uric acid in the blood, causing acute joint pain. The role of the family is crucial in the care process of patients with gout arthritis, especially in supporting treatment and non-pharmacological therapies. This study aims to implement family nursing care for Mrs. J, who suffers from gout arthritis, with a focus on a systematic approach through the nursing process. This case study was conducted using a family nursing care approach for a gout arthritis patient, which includes assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation of the client and family. The client is 70 years old, and the main intervention used was a non-pharmacological therapy in the form of warm compresses, applied for 3 days in the working area of Bambu Public Health Center. From the assessment results, two nursing diagnoses were identified for Mrs. J with gout arthritis: acute pain and knowledge deficit. One family diagnosis was also established: ineffective family health management. An additional intervention involved the application of warm compresses. The three-day implementation showed a reduction in the client's pain intensity and an increase in the family's participation and understanding in caring for the sick family member. Based on the results of the study conducted by the researcher, all three nursing diagnoses were resolved within 3 days, with the additional intervention of warm compress therapy proving effective in reducing gout arthritis pain in the client, as evidenced by a decrease in uric acid levels from 17,8 mg/dl to 10,7 mg/dl within 2 days. Family support also plays a key role in the success of patient care in the home setting.
