Abstract
Fine motor development plays a critical role in children's readiness for school-related tasks such as writing, drawing, and self-care activities, making early stimulation essential during the preschool period. The prevalence of developmental delay among children in Indonesia was relatively high in 2020, with 25% of children experiencing delays in motor development. This high prevalence of fine motor delay is largely attributed to insufficient fine motor stimulation, particularly through play-based activities in early childhood settings. One approach to enhancing fine motor development is the PUZTAZ (Puzzle Tangkas Anak Zenius) innovation, a puzzle-based game designed to train hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, and problem-solving skills in young children. This study aimed to determine the effect of playing PUZTAZ on fine motor development among preschool-aged children at RA Al-Falah. This pre-experimental study evaluated fine motor development (DDST-II) in 33 purposively sampled children using a one-group pretest-posttest design. Baseline assessment showed 36.4% normal, 57.6% suspect, and 6.1% untestable cases. Following the PUZTAZ intervention, normal development increased to 91% (30 respondents) while suspect cases dropped to 9% (3 respondents). A Wilcoxon signed-rank test confirmed a statistically significant improvement (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that playing PUZTAZ has a significant effect on fine motor development among preschool children aged 4–6 years at RA Al-Falah. PUZTAZ is therefore recommended as an engaging, low-cost tool for stimulating fine motor skills in early childhood education settings and warrants further investigation in larger, more diverse populations to strengthen the generalizability of these findings.
