Abstract

The growing elderly population presents significant challenges to health status and well-being. Aging triggers physiological shifts leading to malnutrition risks, which subsequently decreases physical function and social interactions. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional status and the quality of life (QoL) among the elderly in Palipi Soreang Village, Majene Regency. Methods: An analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. A sample of 60 elderly individuals was selected using purposive sampling. Nutritional status was assessed using Body Mass Index (BMI), while quality of life was evaluated using the standardized WHOQOL-BREF instrument covering physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test (α=0.05). Results: The findings revealed that the majority of respondents had a normal nutritional status (55%) and a good quality of life (60%). Statistical analysis confirmed a significant relationship between nutritional status and QoL with a p-value of 0.003 (p < 0.05) and an Odds Ratio (OR) of 4.54, indicating that elderly individuals with normal nutritional status are 4.54 times more likely to have a better quality of life compared to those with abnormal nutritional status. Elderly individuals with normal nutritional status were more likely to have a better quality of life compared to those with undernutrition (25%) or overnutrition (20%). Conclusion: Nutritional status is a critical predictor of the elderly's quality of life. Appropriate nutritional interventions and routine health
